Nobel Peace Prize Winner to Visit UO

PeaceJam Northwest is excited to announce the visit of Rigoberta Menchu Tum, the Nobel Peace Prize winner from Guatemala, and the only Native Amercian to have won the Prize. Ms Tum is an activist, a presidential candidate, and a witness to systematic acts of genocide against her Mayan people in Guatemala.

She will be visiting the University of Oregon to lead our first full PeaceJam conference for teens Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19.  She will also be presenting a lecture, open to the public and the university community, on Friday, April 17th at Beall Concert Hall from 6:30 -8:30 p.m.  This presentation will address issues of genocide, colonialism and indigenous rights in Guatemala, and will include opportunities for participation by UO students and faculty.
